The International Council is the legal governing body of BuildingSMART International consisting of two representatives from each buildingSMART chapter. The Council meet once a year.
The Strategic Advisory Council (SAC), a group of senior representatives from the world’s leading international businesses serving the building and infrastructure industries, was established to provide high level industry advice and feedback to buildingSMART. This Council is expected to meet annually.
The ExCom is elected by the International Council and charged with leading buildingSMART International and our worldwide Chapter network. As buildingSMART transitions to professional leadership, the ExCom is transitioning to a board of directors role.
buildingSMART International is transitioning from a volunteer to a professionally led organization. Richard Petrie, our Chief Executive, was retained in Spring 2013. An Operations Director is currently being recruited. Other positions will be filled in 2015.
The business management of the buildingSMART International’s operations is led and organised through the Executive supported by ExCom.
The newly formed Standards Committee is the governing body within the Standards Program. The Standards Process details the operation of the Standards Program and is administered by the Standards Committee Executive
Compliance Program Leadership
The Compliance Program is led directly by ExCom at present. The Software Certification activities are supported by the Implementation Support Group.
The international user group is being refocused to act as the lead body with responsibility to facilitate and enhance collaboration between chapters and engagement of chapters with the standards and compliance programs.
New Chapter and Chapter development activities are led by ExCom.
