bSI meeting in Tokyo, October 2012

The October meeting in Tokyo is probably the most important for buildingSMART in many years.  It comes as BIM adoption across the world is really taking off, and as several governments are adopting buildingSMART standards in their procurement policies.

At the May International Council meeting in London it was decided to accept the UK Government challenge to speed up the development of buildingSMART standards for data exchange, processes and dictionaries.  Since then a lot of effort has been put into preparing plans to do this.  In Tokyo we shall be bringing together the International User Group (IUG), the International Technical Management Committee (ITM), the Process Room, the Product Room and ISO TC 59.  They will have before them the suggested technical roadmap and will be asked to flesh out the work priorities for inclusion in a draft business plan to be presented to potential funders and resource providers.

So if you are a user who wants to get support for particular processes, or if you are a product manufacturer or specialist supplier who wants to make available product data online to a standard format, now is the time to get involved. We shall also be looking to broaden the teams of people available and capable of doing the work.  Again presence in Tokyo would demonstrate a commitment and desire to be part of the action.
