The buildingSMART IFC Software Certification Program is intended to promote consistent and reliable implementations of the IFC specification by many software vendors across multiple software applications. The consistency aimed at by the certification program will help drive rapid evaluation, deployment and acceptance of the IFC standard for the exchange and sharing of Building Information Models.
- In 2005 a first IFC Certification 1.0 procedure had been introduced which aims at checking the ability of a software vendor to implement IFC properly
- In 2010 the new IFC Certification 2.0 procedure has been introduced which aims at checking the actual achieved level of quality of IFC support more in-depth. A new certification specification, a new certification platform, a new program defining test instructions, and new tools for validating the test results are currently developed.
Each individual IFC certification process is guided by the IFC Certification Procedure and specific to a Model View Definition of the IFC specification. Currently a certification program is available for the following buildingSMART International Model View Definitions:
- IFC2x3 Coordination View Version 2.0
