Chapters are national membership organizations sharing the vision and goals of buildingSMART International. Chapters also develop and promote the use of openBIM in their countries. Two representatives from each Full Chapter are members of the International Council.
Chapter Principles: Overview
Our Chapter Program is building a strong relationship between chapters and bujildingSMART International to enhance chapter effectiveness and the strength of our Standards and Compliance Programs.
A two way program:
- Outreach program to support chapters
- Strong role for chapters in Standards program
Key to the future Chapter program will be strong outreach capability which supports Chapters to engage in their own in-country leadership with the latest expertise across the three crucial domains of
The mutual dependence and opportunity between bSI and chapters is explicitly recognised. A chapter development program will be put in place to enhance the relationships across the entire buildingSMART community. A strong two way program is envisaged.
Chapters will have a big role to play locally in their own geographies in responding to and setting up programs relevant to their in country needs. They also need to identify and engage in feeding standards requirements into the Standards program. It is worth reiterating that the full benefits of open BIM will not be achieved from a nation by nation approach to standards.
International User Group
The International User Group (IUG) is being refocused to act as the lead body with responsibility to facilitate and enhance collaboration between chapters and engagement of chapters with the standards and compliance programs. The new IUG will also take the lead in establishing knowledge sharing to promote open BIM needs identification and deployment.
Our Chapter Leader Conference Calls program will continue.
It is proposed to support these initiatives with an annual Chapter Conference organized to coincide with the International Council meeting.
