After 32 years of working experience at SAMOOCM since joining the company in 1988, he has been in charge of the general manager since 2014 and widely involved in the management of the company.
How long have you been involved in openBIM and buildingSMART?
Chairman of the building SMART Association since April 2016.
What do you like the most about your work in your chapter?
Working on the promotion of BIM through various activities such as holding conferences and forums, participating in international conferences and activities, and forming a working-level consultative body in Korea.
The greatest success achieved within your chapter?
- Take a role in establishing cooperation with other construction entities to expand the base of the domestic BIM field.
- Provide a boundary-free ground inside and outside the country as an association that is the center of the domestic BIM.
- Perform government BIM tasks; Develop and distribute BIM standards; Operate the BIM consultative body; Foster human resources through BIM education and issuance of private certificates.
- Expand BIM base in the CM field of the construction industry.
What does openBIM mean to you?
- openBIM is an aggregation of construction information and the best technology to induce a new paradigm in the construction industry.
- BIM in the future construction industry is both corporate and national competitive power.
- Spread the openBIM technology and foundation in the construction industry by reflecting Korea's unique construction models and processes in openBIM through its regulation review.
What is the biggest challenge the community is facing today?
- Lack of consistency in BIM information standards at the national level.
- Lack of continuous national support for developing the standards.
- Requires extensive participation in specialized fields such as architecture, structure, electricity, equipment, landscaping, and civil engineering to overcome the judgment that the BIM infrastructure lacks an overall construction industry.
What challenges do you encounter in your country?
- Requires establishment of the Act and the institutionalization of the BIM standard for the change of the method of ordering, etc. at the national level.
- Requires empirical, technical, and institutional support for the introduction of BIM at the national level for initial investment costs such as information infrastructure construction, manpower securing, education, etc. that are preventing the spread of BIM in the construction industry, and the occurrence of many trial and error and duplication of investment.
What are the main opportunities for your market?
- Global design that applied BIM and engineering and construction technologies that are in their early stages, can be an opportunity to enter the global competitive market.
Digitalization is more and more present today; what do you do in your chapter to meet the challenges it poses:
- Pushing forward the development and distribution of BIM information standards and improvement of the legal system with the belief that BIM is the center of the 4th Industrial Revolution in the construction industry.
What vision, as a chapter leader, would you give to the whole community?
- By promoting the research, dissemination, and application of BIM application and advanced construction ICT in the domestic construction industry, he spread the technology and foundation of the openBIM. He also contributed to the development of domestic and international construction industries through participation in and contribution to international activities.
What is your overall vision of the future?
- An open and shareable construction industry infrastructure and society through the sharing of facility information and realization of the environmental and common economic benefits through BIM.
