buildingSMART Members

Membership in buildingSMART International is open to companies, government bodies and institutions from around the world. buildingSMART provides an environment where proponents seeking to promote and recognize the benefits of BIM work together in a community to develop and implement international standards, methodologies and compliance procedures. Members benefit from the collective activities of other members locally and internationally. buildingSMART International offers three levels of membership. Membership is required for those parties wishing to take an active role in the development of solutions to user or technical requirements. bSI members have voting rights in the standards committee.

Strategic members play a direct role in shaping buildingSMART’s strategy and helping determine priorities and focus areas. Strategic members have a formal role in semi-annual strategic board meetings to advise on standards and compliance programs, managing bSI’s position in the industry, gaining engagement for standards development and deployment and the international chapter strategy. Strategic members are leading multi-national enterprises who believe that full implementation and adoption of open BIM is strategically important to the built environment sector and to their own enterprise and wish to play a strategic role in driving forward its implementation. Their valuable insights assist buildingSMART in developing clear and well-articulated product and technology strategies and ensure future opportunities and requirements for open standards are addressed.

Principal Membership is for organizations who want to drive change in the technical developments of buildingSMART International with more influence on the services being developed and produced. This membership category is typical for those who want a single Chapter to be a member of and to ensure technical developments continue to make progress. Members would be required to provide technical input and business acumen to help with progress for the Technical Roadmap.

Multinational members are active in multiple chapters and active participants in a variety of buildingSMART activities. Multinational membership is available for organizations of all types who are active in multiple countries and wish to participate in chapter activities in several countries as well as the standards program. Multinational members have full voting membership rights on the standards committee and membership rights with up to five buildingSMART chapters.
