Where are you based?

I am based in Ljubljana, capital city of Slovenia.

When was your first interaction or involvement with buildingSMART?

I think that my first interaction was in 2018, when I attended buildingSMART conference in London.

Tell us a little about your work history/professional journey, and how it led you to buildingSMART.

I´m civil engineer and I founded my own software company CGS in 1990. During the last 30+ years I gained a lot of experience in CAD and BIM. Being involved with buildingSMART was just a logical next step for me.

What do you like the most about the work you do within your Chapter?

I like to promote new technologies and I like work with people.

What would you say are the biggest successes or milestones to date within your Chapter?

Firstly, Slovenian Chapter organized and hosted the buildingSMART International Council and Chapter conference in June 2023, held at Brdo pri Kranju in Slovenia. I think that we all enjoyed this event very much. Secondly, it´s BIM mandate that we have prepared with the Slovenian government, valid from 1.1.205.

What does openBIM mean to you personally?

It means freedom and democratic approach to making business.

What overriding challenge(s) do you see the community facing today?

Learning about possibilities, which new technologies like openBIM bring.

What challenge(s) do you encounter within your Chapter?

There is always some lack of human and financial resources. But with good motivation we overcome these challenges.

What do you see as the main opportunities for your market?

There are still many, many companies and organizations, which can benefit from openBIM concept. We should make them aware of it.

With digitalization becoming more prevalent, how is your Chapter addressing the challenges and opportunities it brings?

I think it´s all about people and their relations. Networking is an important part of our mission.

What are your visions and/or aspirations for the future, both for your Chapter and for buildingSMART internationally?

I hope that we can professionalize our work at Chapter and have a stronger impact on local community.
