28 Jul 2021 | IFC 4.3 Infra and Rail Extension Deployment Production Standard out for vote | Out for Review | The IFC 4.3 Infra Extension Deployment project and the IFC Rail Project teams are asking the Standards Committee to consider and approve as a Production Standard the output from their coordinated projects. Voting closes on 20th October 2021. These Projects have harmonized and validated IFC 4.3 for Roads, Railways, Bridges, Earthworks, Geotechnics, Ports & Waterways. This will deliver IFC 4.3 as an official buildingSMART production standard which will be made available to implement and use by the industry at large. The two main objectives of these projects are: 1. Validation of the Production Standard schema in accordance with the bSI Process based on test-cases implemented and tested in collaboration with software vendors. 2. Harmonization of taxonomies and property set definitions across the domains (Road, Rail, Bridge, Ports & Waterways). Both objectives serve the same common goal: to deliver a refined IFC schema and documentation with harmonized property sets to be submitted to bSI for SC voting to become a Production Standard. | https://app.box.com/s/1nm5qqyn9jw2nopbr1952f58b90spdrm | Railway & Infrastructure

5 Sep 2022 | The BIM-BEM Workflows project team have submitted their technical report for bSI review. This is currently with SC for consideration and vote to publish as a final report. | Out for Review | The report provides an overview of requirements for developing IDMs, and corresponding data exchange specifications, between building information modelling and building energy modelling (BEM), simulation, and analysis throughout a project lifecycle. The report examines previous BEM initiatives with the purpose of formulating a roadmap for moving forward in a more cohesive, harmonized direction based on buildingSMART principles of open, neutral, and international consensus solutions. The report recommends the buildingSMART community consider all potential options for determining the optimal means and methods of data capture and exchange for BIM-BEM processes, including the use, reference, or linking of other data schemas and methods that may have already proven their effectiveness. | https://app.box.com/s/1lo25g724749mbqjhgixy2nqdarq33uw | Building
14 Sep 2022 | The Asset Operations Handover (AOH) Framework activity proposal has been issued to the Standards Committee for consultation. | Out for Review | The proposed Asset Operations Handover Framework Specification project (aka “AOH Framework”) is an effort to provide a comprehensive and consistent approach for project delivery information handover to operations stakeholders and systems across all domains and use cases. This work is an evolutionary step from the prior bSI IFC2x3 Facility Management Handover Model View Definition (FMH-MVD, 2009) and the US Construction Operations Building information exchange version 2.4 (COBie 2.4, 2014) specifications. 7 Sep 2022 | Guidance for Regulators on using openBIM Activity Proposal | Out for Review | The project will address the growing interest worldwide in improving and automating the regulatory compliance process. As part of national digitalization projects, many countries are currently investigating the use of IFC in regulatory processes. The Regulatory Room believes that there is now an urgent need to make sure that Regulators have access to an informative resource so that they can understand and be confident of the benefits of openBIM and the risks associated with proprietary formats and applications and be aware of the significant activity around the world. This standard proposal has been sent to the Standards Committee for consultation. Please follow the link to view the activity proposal. 6 Sep 2022 | Applying IFC 4.3 for Rail Detailed Project Plan | Out for Review | This project is to address the engagement of software vendors, definition of rules and agreements to support IFC 4.3 implementation in software, and IFC file validation. The project will experiment, and potentially improve, a set of solutions and procedures that given any requirement, will help: a) clients to correctly formulate the request in contracts; b) suppliers to verify if and how the request can be satisfied. This project aims to expedite the availability of IFC 4.3 in software solutions for railway applications. It will do so by continuing the established cooperation and collaboration with software vendors, enabling a use-case-driven implementation and validation process to formally deliver and publish requirements for software vendors to implement and enable a fit-for-purpose checking process for software solutions. Please follow the link to view the Detailed Project Plan. If you have any comments or feedback, please make this available to your Standards Committee representative. | https://app.box.com/file/1003639988200?s=i3cpzfvfubpig0nrrb2bmxju0wfzp56x | Railway
1 Oct 2022 | IFC for Products Activity Proposal | Out for Review | The Product Room and SCTE have endorsed an activity proposal for IFC for Products. There is a missing link in the IFC openBIM world when it comes to products. There is currently no official MVD for exchanging information about one or several products using IFC. All existing MVD’s are structural project or building based. On the other hand, there is a strong wish from product manufacturers to provide their products in an openBIM format. The CEN created COD (Construction Object Definition) could enable pure product information to be provided in an IFC-based data format. Similar to RFA in Revit or GDL in ArchiCAD, COD could be developed as the solution for this need. This activity proposal is about a technical and applicational proof of concept of COD in buildingSMART as a first step. A second step would be an extension or re-creation of COD as an IFC for Products. A third step should be the promotion of this format to the global community. | https://app.box.com/s/00ydwqwdyjarl8v1v0wadqxlags5nxqt | Product

10 Mar 2023 | The Information Delivery Specification (IDS) Candidate Standard is now out for review by the Standards Committee. | Out for Review | The Information Delivery Specification (IDS) Candidate Standard has been issued to the Standards Committee for their review and feedback. The vote closes Friday 2nd June 2023. The IDS is a standard for defining information requirements in a way that is easily read by humans and interpreted by computers. This standard helps people in the built asset industry to better define their exchange requirements and adds clarity amongst various stakeholders. It ensures asset owners can specify accurately what they want and allows project participants with a better insight into what they need to deliver. It adds certainty and clarity when used in combination with other standards and services. With IDS, users can demand and verify the use of properties (including quantities and attributes), materials, classifications, entity types, and object dependency (partOf). As of now, IDS does not have the capability to define the details of geometry. | https://app.box.com/s/xfydfobx2kl63u64y6yku0bbehx8tvst | Technical |
