The buildingSMART openBIM Awards 2024 – Winners Announced

Marrakesh, Morocco – October 8th, 2024 — The openBIM Awards 2024 concluded with a ceremony on Thursday 3rd October 2024, at the majestic Beldi Country Club in Marrakesh. The ceremony followed a full day of presentations from 22 finalists, competing to win an openBIM Award. Four elite jury teams deliberated for the various categories, selecting 9 award winners and 2 special mentions.

The complete list of winners is as follows:

Category of  CONSTRUCTION FOR BUILDINGS: 

  • Kier Construction – Optimising Super Prison Delivery: Kier’s Collaboration with the MoJ Using Open Standards – United Kingdom. 

Category of  CONSTRUCTION FOR INFRASTRUCTURE: 

  • China Communication Construction Company – “Successful information management innovations based on openBIM for Bogotá Metro Line 1” – Colombia. 

Category of  DESIGN FOR BUILDINGS: 

  • Hip Hing Engineering Company Limited – “Kai Tak Sports Park: Delivering a state-of-the-art design of a multipurpose sports complex with open and interoperable processes” – Hong Kong, China. 

Category of  DESIGN FOR INFRASTRUCTURE: 

  • Copenhagen Metro – “openBIM integration and data validation in conceptual design phase for the new M5 Metro Line” – Denmark. 

Category of  HANDOVER: 

  • Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, The Government of the Hong Kong SAR – “Transforming MEP Project Handover Practices: Embracing BCF, bSDD, IDS, IFC, and openBIM into BIM Asset Management Life Cycle” – Hong Kong, China. 

Category of  PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH: 

  • Mostostal Warszawa S.A. – “Assist-IoT: Smart Safety on Construction Site - IoT platform utilising openBIM and AI for automatic OSH monitoring and incident location with use of an IFC model” – Poland. 

Category of  STUDENT RESEARCH: 

  • The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology – “CarbonSmart: Automated Knowledge Graph-based Carbon Assessment and Tracking throughout the Construction Life Cycle using openBIM, openGIS, and Blockchain” – Hong Kong, China. 

Category of SUSTAINABILITY: 

  • Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) – “Use, re-use but do not abuse resources: an openBIM approach to standardising terminology, data and processes for circular construction information management and exchange” – The Netherlands. 

Category of  TECHNOLOGY: 

  • BIM & Scan – “BIM & Scan® OpenOp: An openBIM Life-Cycle Management Platform - Validation and Reconstruction Tools” – Ireland. 

Additionally, two of the finalists were awarded a Special Mention:  

  • Københavns Ejendomme – “KEJD Dataportal: Towards Next-Gen IFC” – Denmark. 
  • Polythecnic of Milan – “IFC COST: Redefining Cost Efficiency and Transparency in the AEC Industry” – Italy. 

 

The openBIM Awards 2025 portal for submissions will open on 18th March 2025.
