buildingSMART initiates and sponsors hackathons to promote agility and drive the development of new standards and solutions. Hackathons are typically part of a larger innovation program designed to support and enable buildingSMART’s mission. They may focus on solving a particular problem or explore larger topics aimed to expedite the delivery of a standard or solution.
Hackathons are most successful when there is participation from a broad cross-section of organizations, such as consulting engineers, contractors, public agencies, owners, operators, students, professors, software providers, and standards organizations. In these events, computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, subject-matter-experts, and more collaborate intensively on software projects. The overriding goal of buildingSMART hackathons is to create usable software. buildingSMART Norway hosts openLAB as part of their innovation program aimed at solving challenges for users in their community.
