London, U.K. – March 24, 2022 - buildingSMART International is delighted to welcome GF Piping Systems as a Standard member. GF Piping Systems, a division of Georg Fischer AG, is proud of its long history of success with roots going back more than 200 years when Johann Conrad Fischer laid the foundation. What began in 1802 with a small copper smelting plant and development works for new alloys, has since developed into the global industrial corporation we know today. Towards the end of 19th century, the company first began to produce long-standing malleable cast iron fittings, thereby creating the basis of today's division GF Piping Systems.
Today, it is established as a leading supplier of piping systems for the safe and reliable transport of liquids and gases. Despite the constant change, customer-centric innovation and sustainability remain the defining values for GF Piping Systems.
By joining buildingSMART International, GF aims to accelerate work for product manufacturers by adopting and developing open standards. This includes working with existing projects and new work items for ensuring products are not only digitized, but also brought to market efficiently.
Bernd Schuster, Head Global Specialized Solutions from GF Piping Systems, states that the Swiss company ''has a culture to be a leading manufacturer in topics of advanced construction technologies, where BIM belongs to. For us, it is a natural process to come from manufacturer-driven innovation to international standards driven by strong global associations; therefore buildingSMART is an excellent opportunity to let the entire industry benefit from open formats and standards''.
Richard Petrie, Chief Executive, buildingSMART International said, ''GF Piping Systems is our first member coming from Product Manufacturing. It is exciting and a turning point because we have been pushing for more work to be done in this area with our DSCiBE workgroup and reflects their commitment to openBIM workflows and the leadership required for the industry. We can't wait to work with GF in the future''.
