buildingSMART Appoints Bart Brink to Lead the Digital Twins Working Group

London, U.K. – September 14, 2020  buildingSMART International has appointed Bart Brink, Global Director, Digital Twin at Royal HaskoningDHV as the leader of the buildingSMART Digital Twins Working Group (DTWG). Bart will lead the important initiative and work on supporting the buildingSMART programs.

“It is a great honour and pleasure for me to lead the DTWG at buildingSMART International” says Bart Brink. “Digital twins give us the opportunity to arm ourselves with new levels of insight and efficiency. By combining the knowledge of physical assets with the latest digital technologies, digital twins create a reliable source of data that provides a single digital truth. This is vital in supporting data sharing, enabling collaboration between industries and disciplines, improving decision-making, and accelerating digital transformation. The DTWG and the broader buildingSMART community are well-positioned to contribute to these developments.”

Since its formation in 2019, the DTWG at buildingSMART has developed a key positioning paper titled “Enabling an Ecosystem of Digital Twins”. The aim of the paper was to find ways of unlocking more value using digital technologies by utilizing the work done by the buildingSMART community.

With a wide range of interoperability solutions and standards, buildingSMART International continues to establish relationships with key organizations and other industry bodies to align semantics and integrate technologies. Aidan Mercer, Marketing Director, buildingSMART International said “the digital transformation is being accelerated using digital twins. The opportunity to enable an ecosystem of digital twins unlocks opportunities for social, economic, environmental, and business benefit that will bring together a fragmented industry. We are delighted that Bart will be leading this important working group as he adds not only valuable expertise but leadership in this exciting time.”
