London, U.K. – October 26, 2020  buildingSMART International announced today the addition of Autodesk to the organization’s Strategic Advisory Council (SAC). As an original founder of buildingSMART, Autodesk has a long standing relationship with buildingSMART and the addition of Autodesk to the SAC signals Autodesk’s commitment to open data standards at this pivotal time in the digitisation within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.

“We are delighted Autodesk has joined the Strategic Advisory Council at this time when we are pushing for implementation of our new standards. With millions of Autodesk software users worldwide, Autodesk’s participation in the Strategic Advisory Council is significant to delivering against our core mission. Their long history of supporting openBIM and better digital ways of working will benefit the entire community,” said Richard Petrie, Chief Executive, buildingSMART International.

“Addressing the challenges before us all, including population growth, the effects of climate change, and improving industry resilience requires all technology providers in the AEC industry to work together for the common good,” said Vikram Dutt, Associate Vice President of Building Design at Autodesk. “buildingSMART continues to be a leading voice for industry standardization and cooperation, and as members of the Strategic Advisory Council, Autodesk is committed to strengthening the mission and improving the built world around us.”
