London, (June 27, 2022) – buildingSMART International is proud to announce the appointment of Céline Bent as its Compliance Director. An architect by profession, Céline has previously served various roles at Royal BAM Group, as a Lecturer at Nyenrode Business University, and most recently as a freelance consultant supporting sustainability and innovation programs at multiple organizations. At Royal BAM Group, Céline’s career spanned almost ten years, delivering major sustainability and innovation initiatives, including 3D printing, predictive maintenance, alternative materials, modular construction, and smart mobility solutions.

buildingSMART International organizes its work in three board programs. The User Program engages with front-line users in capturing use cases, documenting work processes, and defining information exchange requirements that support digital transformation. The Solutions and Standards Program's primary focus is to develop open standards and solutions by international consensus-building for implementation by global software vendors. Finally, the Compliance Program promotes the education, training, and professional certification necessary to support effective deployment and deliver confidence in using these open standards and solutions.

The appointment of a Compliance Director is a key milestone for buildingSMART to support the growing industry demand for openBIM® and the training and professional certification requirements that brings. Such requirements include the professional foundation and practitioner-level training, and domain-specific accreditation. In this role, Céline will work closely with the buildingSMART international community, including the Chapter network, to accelerate and enhance the existing program.

As a passionate advocate of a more sustainable future, Céline brings experience and expertise to lead the Compliance Program at buildingSMART. Céline said, “I am motivated to work with the community and further develop educational programs that will help people across the world in adopting openBIM and making the industry less wasteful and more efficient in the use of natural resources, building materials, and energy consumption.

Ian Howell, buildingSMART International Interim CEO, said, “the appointment of Céline as Compliance Director will accelerate and grow the already successful Professional Certification Program and provides the community with a dedicated resource that supports the global need. Céline brings a wealth of knowledge, energy, and passion to this position, and we are excited to further develop the program under her leadership”.
